Monocrotophos 36% SL is a highly hazardous, broad-spectrum organophosphate insecticide used in agriculture to control a variety of sucking and chewing pests. The "36% SL" indicates a concentration of 36% active ingredient formulated as a Soluble Liquid. Key Features and Use
• Mode of Action: It works through systemic, contact, and stomach action. It is absorbed by the plant and transported throughout the tissues, which provides long-lasting protection against both internal and external pests by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase in the insect's nervous system, leading to paralysis and death.
• Target Pests: It is effective against a wide range of pests, including:
  • Aphids, Jassids, Thrips, and Whiteflies.
  • Bollworms, Pod borers, Fruit borers, Leaf miners, and Caterpillars.
  • Stem borers and Leaf folders in crops like paddy and sugarcane.
  • Mites (it also has acaricidal action).
• Target Crops: It is used on various crops, such as cotton, rice (paddy), maize, sugarcane, pulses (black gram, green gram, red gram), coffee, and citrus. 
Safety and RegulationMonocrotophos is classified as a highly hazardous pesticide by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Due to its high toxicity to humans, mammals, birds, and aquatic life, its use is heavily regulated or banned in many countries, including the U.S., the E.U., and most recently, India. In India, the manufacture, sale, distribution, and use of the Monocrotophos 36% SL formulation was officially banned in October 2023, with a one-year transitional period provided for the clearance of existing stock until its expiry date. It had previously been banned for use on vegetable crops in 2005. Precautions
