How They Work

Activation: The alkaline conditions in the insect's midgut dissolve the spores, releasing protein crystals.
Binding and Disruption: These proteins (Bt toxins or Cry toxins) bind to specific receptors on the gut lining, forming pores and causing the cells to burst (cell lysis).
Death: The resulting damage to the digestive system leads to starvation and the eventual death of the larvae.
Some botanical bio larvicides have different modes of action, such as acting as antifeedants, growth inhibitors, or disrupting the nervous system.
